Bradford Textiles Society Design Brief

Figure 1: Photoshop

Figure 2: Fail attempt

Throughout experimenting, I find ways that work best for me in my practice, and see figure 2. This attempt of translating my drawing skills onto the fabric. The composition of white paper brought vibrancy to the fox. When transferring onto a fabric it was not as vibrant. The body and composition was not in proportion and the eyes were not as well stitched as the previous pair.

However, being able to see where I need to work on more is better I worked for a long time on this sample and now have a better idea of how to develop this in the future and develop my methods. I tend to spend days working on different sections of the piece; in a similar method to a sculptor.

Figure 3: Collaboration

I have took on this collaboration brief. I decided to take on this work to develop my abilities towards commercial markets that are relevant to my future career ambition. The narrative of the fox fits onto this brief clearly and adds an additional dimension to my portfolio of work. The jacket is pre-constructed which has made me think about new ways to be creative within an existing pattern. It limits my abilities and helps me develop new techniques. The jacket is commercial and wearable and therefore is a suitable framework for developing my stitch work.
