Figure 1 Personal Photograph, Costumes of the performers
|
At Blackpool Pleasure Beach, they have circus and ice-skating
performances. They have a department that provide costumes for the performers.
Each show has its own theme, and what surprised me was that they make a costume
for each of the performers.
During my year at Cheadle and Marple Sixth Form College, I learnt
that within the ballet showcase business, in order to save money on costume
making they would design the costume being able to fit at least three different
sizes.
However, in the Blackpool Pleasure Beach showcase business, they have a costume fitted per performer.

Another
thing that struck me was the numbers of costumes, because each performer would
have their very own costume, and every other month, they would have to come in
for a full body measurement.
During the
tour, I noticed that most of the costumes were enormous; almost sculpture like
when they were next to each other and colour coded.
Most of the
costumes were feather based, I wonder if this was because the enormous size of
the costumes to create the dramatic effect, so by using feathers it would not
be so heavy and make it easier for the performers to balance the costume on
their body, while they were performing at the same time.
