Blackpool Pleasure Beach

Figure 1 Personal Photograph – Blackpool Pleasure Beach.

During the visit to Blackpool Pleasure Beach, the first thing that captured my interest was the rides. The enormous building structures of the rides are stacked and intertwined with each other.
By looking up at them the colour contrasts of red and blue (See Figure 1) was eye catching and the metal bars that support the ride almost become a straight line drawing, for example like Josh Bryan’s work. Out of the visit to Blackpool it is the rides that I think will influence my work. I really like the way the structures connect and the link with line drawings, which will connect with my future work.

Josh Bryan’s drawing – Triangulations.

It also interests me within the fairground how the business is run in order to keep it going. During the tour, it was explained that in the Pleasure Beach, there are themed parks and the theme has to be changed every now and then into something that people would recognize from generation to generation make them come back again and again.  In Figures 2 and 3 I have taken an image from the internet from 2002 and a an image I took in 2014, at the same place in the park. This shows the change in theme from the goldmine to Alice in Wonderland.
