This unit apart from alongside a live brief project, I will identifying and focusing on an area of specialism
and a context for work which reflects personal interests and professional
ambitions in relation to contemporary practices.
My area of specialism is
embroidery, hand-stitch and machine.
What are you aiming to create/make/design?
A narrative textiles piece. Using illustration
to outline the story characters. Exploring the scales and composition.
What visual research will be undertaken?
Research of birds, observing the moment and
translate it into my own drawings.
Explain any themes, ideas or concepts you
plan to explore.
The original story is ‘The Crow and Peacock,
who is happy’ that I have based this work on.
What methods, techniques or lines of enquiry do
you intend to use?
Blanket, mixed techniques from both hand
stich, machine stitch and print. At this
stage I am working with my strengths in embroidery and combining with other
techniques that are most relevant to this.
How does the intended work/project relate to
previous work?
Intentions; urban influences where I observed
subject matter and my observations. The
technique of observation has shifted from man-made to natural subjects. The
subject matter is less static now, for example the bird flies and has
characteristics that I can represent. I
have doodled whilst observing the natural world.
What is the market or context for your
proposed work?
62 group artists as inspiration. Gallery and exhibition pieces as oppose to
high street products. The texture and
handmade quality would be lost in mass production.
